This Summer, GUARANT International Welcomed Two Prestigious Scientific Events to Prague
Although summer is not a typical meetings season, this year's holiday months were for GUARANT International marked mainly by two important scientific meetings: the International Conference on Butterfly Biology and the 20th International Congress of Phonetic Sciences. Participants of both events were able to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of summer Prague during their accompanying programme.
In July, the 9th International Conference on the Biology of Butterflies (BOB 2023) took place in Prague. This conference provides a once-in-four-years opportunity for scientists and biologists from around the world to discuss the latest findings and research on butterflies and related species. In doing so, it promotes collaboration and development, understanding of butterfly biology, ecology, behaviour, genetics, and conservation of the species. The scientific program consisted of 4 plenary lectures delivered by distinguished speakers in the field, technical lectures, 12 scientific symposia, a poster session and a closing ceremony during which student awards were presented. Delegates also had a choice of professional excursions to 4 various locations in Prague and Central Bohemia. The conference dinner was also set in the summer spirit as it took place on a boat, yielding views of the most beautiful gems of the Czech capital city.
In August, the 20th International Congress of Phonetic Sciences (ICPhS) returned to Prague, for the second time. This quadrennial event brings together researchers, experts and professionals in the world of phonetics and speech science. In total, more than 1100 participants attended the five-day hybrid ICPhS congress, most of them from the USA, Germany and the UK. The scientific programme, which took place at the Prague Congress Centre, included a total of 869 oral and poster presentations and covered an incredible 29 scientific areas. In addition to the "Run for Fun & Walk for Fun" morning activity, delegates were treated to a spectacular congress dinner and were able, together with their accompanying persons, to take part in the VIP Prague Grand Tour - a sightseeing tour of Prague. Professional childcare was available at the PCC premises for the duration of the congress.
The GUARANT International project teams, who have perceived the events as a welcome change of this summer season, were thus able to show Prague and its surroundings in their full summer glory to the participants of the scientific meetings.
