Prague Evaluates Progress of Innovations in 2023
Prague municipal company Operátor ICT (OICT) has published its seventh annual Smart Prague Index mapping and assessing the progress of the Czech capital in the field of innovations, digitalization and modern technologies in 2023. In addition to evaluation the results achieved, the yearbook also sets the direction and priorities for further development of Prague.
The yearbook has been published in cooperation with the City of Prague, municipal companies and other partners since 2017. Based on the specific measurable indicators and annual assessment, the OICT analyses the development of Prague, monitors trends and summarizes the achievements of the Capital. The yearbook thus represents a valuable basis for Prague’s further development.
OICT also deals with the development of the City until 2030 within its Smart Prague 2030 strategy which defines a smart city in six areas: mobility of the future, big data (with a focus on its Golemio platform and effectiveness of utilizing its potential), tourism, smart buildings and energy, people and urban environment, and the waste-free city. Within these areas, clearly defined goals have been set to achieve. Extensive evaluation and retrospective control of how OICT manages to fulfil these goals creates the Smart Prague Index.
“I would like to highlight a few 2023 examples I’m proud of. The number of registered electric cars in Prague increased by 50% year-on-year and compared to 2022, Prague features 60% more charging points. In the area of mobility of the future, we launched a new route finder for the public transportation system, which is able to search various combinations of different means of public, own and shared transportation within one route,” says Daniel Mazur, Prague councillor for the Smart City, ICT, science, research and innovation.
The methodology of the Smart Prague Index is based on the global Cities in Motion index and serves as a tool for evaluating the “comprehensive smartness” of Smart Prague projects. Smart Prague Index maps the initial state, tracks the development of “Prague smartness” over time, monitors the impacts and assesses the success of implemented projects. At the same time, the methodology helps identify weak points and evaluates new approaches to problem-solving.
