Prague Scores as the Best Student City in Europe

The city of a hundred spires won in the “50 Best Student Cities in Europe for 2024” ranking, that is based on data collected from students worldwide who shared their first-hand experiences about living and studying in various cities. Prague scored high in all categories, making it the top student city in Europe.

Some of the key categories of the ranking were academic environment or safety of the city. Prague, along with the rest of the Czech Republic, is considered very safe, a fact underscored by the country’s 12th place in the 2024 Global Peace Index. In an analysis conducted by Taxi2Airport.com Prague also placed first as the friendliest destination for women travellers in 2020.

Regarding the academic environment, there are many options when it comes to studying in Prague. Overall, there were 187 high schools in 2022, and more than 120,000 students decided to continue and gain higher education at one of the 29 Prague’s state or private universities.

The universities are also high-quality ones, they scored well in the "QS World University Rankings" that compares universities from all around the world based on different aspects. For example, Charles University consistently scores best among the Czech universities in this chart, placing 248th this year, followed by The Czech Technical University in 454th and the University of Chemistry and Technology in 556th place for 2024. With new innovations coming from students in these universities, we can only expect them to move up the charts in the coming years. Prague universities are also quite versatile, offering many options when choosing a career.

Because of this, many students come to Prague each year, and some of them stay and work here afterward. Prague is very welcoming towards people who chose it as their new home. The Expat Centre Prague supports expats in their relocation to Prague, provides key information, and helps with settling into the new environment. After their studies, young adults do not have to worry about not being able to find opportunities to pursue their career further in Prague. This city is always innovative and open to new ideas and talents adding to the research field with knowledge from different cultures.  Thanks to the unique combination of various key factors, there’s no wonder, that Prague regularly places among the top cities for expats worldwide.

Another benefit, making Prague a great city to study, work and live in, is the accessibility of the destination. Prague Airport offers direct routes to more than 170 destinations worldwide, and Prague’s public transport system was ranked as the second best in the world, easily connecting most parts of Prague by the metro network, and the rest covered by trams offering nice views of the city centre and buses, with trains roaming around the distant parts of the city. It is not only easy to navigate but also quite affordable. Students can also purchase a special discounted student ticket with a student card.

The convenience of Prague does not limit to the educational field, but it also applies to the meetings industry. All the above-mentioned factors make Prague an ideal meetings destination that also offers a variety of attractive venues in the centre of Europe that are easily accessible by public transport, that is free of charge for many conference and congress delegates.
