Vienna House by Wyndham Hotel at Smíchov Replaces Its Circulation Pumps. Almost 2 Million in Investments Expected to Return Within 2 Years
At Vienna House by Wyndham Andel's Prague in the centre of Prague, the replacement of obsolete circulation pumps began this spring. A total of 47 pumps will be replaced in four stages. The pumps installed in the first stage are 50 percent more efficient than the original ones. By completely replacing all pumps, the hotel will reduce its operating costs by CZK 925,000 and CO2 emissions by 74 tonnes annually. The return on investment of CZK 1,900,000 was calculated for only two years.
„Every hotelier or hotel manager knows very well that the effort to save operation energy is one of the most important steps towards the overall profitability of a hotel. That is why we have decided to focus on all aspects that affect energy consumption. One of them is the replacement of obsolete pumps," said Kateřina Joklová, director of the Vienna House by Wyndham Andel's Prague.
In case of this hotel, the amount of calculated savings is so significant and the return on investment so rapid that they also decided to replace the backup pumps. "The money we save thanks to this modernization of the pumps can be invested much more efficiently than in electricity bills," added Kateřina Joklová.
Vienna House by Wyndham Andel's Prague, like its sister Vienna House by Wyndham Diplomat Prague in Prague's Dejvice district, has been focusing on sustainability for a long time. Both hotels reward their environmentally-friendly guests with a surprise in a so-called green bag for every day they choose to waive their room cleaning. In addition, guests can taste homemade delicacies from local sources, herbs from the hotel's herb garden or honey from the roof of the Andel's Hotel in Smíchov, which has been receiving the highest awards for its quality for several years in a row. A zero waste approach is promoted in the kitchens of both hotels, and the employees themselves contribute to nature conservation by planting new vegetation as part of the Sázíme Česko (“We Plant Czechia”) initiative. In addition, Vienna House by Wyndham Diplomat Prague in Dejvice boasts a level 4 Wyndham Green Certificate, the second highest, and is working hard to obtain the highest level five.
