The international expert meeting focusing on comprehensive care for patients with cleft lip and palate brings together specialists from various medical disciplines and provides a platform for sharing the latest knowledge, experience and innovative approaches. The congress motto, “Bridging Specialities, Transforming Lives”, highlights the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration.
Care for patients with cleft conditions requires close coordination among specialists from various fields of medicine – from surgical disciplines to dentistry, orthodontics, speech therapy and other related specialities. It is the integration of these different areas of expertise that enables the best possible outcomes and improves the quality of life for patients and their families.
The congress is hosted by the Prague Cleft Centre, which builds on the long tradition of Czech plastic surgery and comprehensive cleft care. The history of this field in the Czech Republic is closely associated with the pioneering work of Prof. František Burian, who played a significant role in establishing plastic surgery as an independent surgical discipline in 1937, and his successor, Prof. Miroslav Fára. Their legacy continues to inspire specialists in developing high-quality, comprehensive patient care.
The congress programme focuses on current trends in the treatment of cleft conditions, opportunities for collaboration between different medical specialities, and the exchange of experience among experts from around the world. The programme also provides opportunities for discussion, establishing international contacts and supporting the further development of team-based care.
Before the congress itself, which is held at the turn of September and October 2026, a Pre-congress Cadaver Course also takes place, hosted by the Cleft Center in Brno on 29–30 September 2026.
