Prague has been successful in meeting the goals set out in the 2030 Climate Plan and continues to systematically strive to reduce its carbon footprint. According to the latest monitoring report, CO₂ emissions have dropped by 30% compared to 2010, namely by more than two and a half million tonnes. Prague thus continues its efforts to protect the climate and create better conditions not only for local residents, but also for tourists and congress delegates.

Emissions have been reduced in almost all segments, but car traffic remains a challenge, where CO₂ emissions have not dropped yet. At the same time, the city has a very efficient and compact public transportation network, which in 2023 ranked second best in the world in a satisfaction survey conducted by the TimeOut travel magazine. According to passengers, Prague’s public transport is an easy and affordable way to move quickly around the city and efficiently connects most of its parts. In addition, the city operates a programme of congress fare for conference delegates, which can be applied for through the Prague Convention Bureau.

Prague has long supported the trend of replacing individual car transportation with mass or bicycle transportation in order to improve the conditions for life in the city. Taxis are currently also an important factor in Prague road traffic: their number has increased multiple times in recent years. It was in response to this increase that the city decided to introduce a new rule, according to which taxi operators will have to withdraw all vehicles that do not meet the requirements of the EURO 6d emission standard introduced in 2021 from service by 2027.

As a further step to improve air quality and reduce overheating in the summer months, Prague is also investing in planting trees in individual city districts. With 52% of its territory covered with greenery, Prague is already one of the greenest destinations in the world and plans to continue expanding it in the future. By the end of 2026, the total number of newly planted trees in the last 7 years should reach one million. Prague has already come significantly closer to this goal – 229,900 trees were planted last year, bringing the total number to 867,501.

Prague’s greenery also plays a key role in Prague’s meetings industry, not only in terms of reducing its carbon footprint, but also in the selection of event venues. If you are looking for a place in the city centre that also offers contact with nature, Prague definitely has a lot to offer. The green roofs of the Křižík Pavilions, the flower seating in the Botanical Garden, or a picnic with clients in the Grébovka vineyards – in short, green oases that are ideal especially for summer events in Prague.
